How to use this dashboard

Choosing a date

Use the Date picker in the toolbar to see PM2.5 for any single day. Data is currently available from … to …. Dates outside that range are greyed out and can't be selected. If a date inside the range still has no data (a rare gap from a failed update), the picker will tell you and jump to the closest date that does.

Filtering

Use Country to zoom into one country and scope every number on the page to it, and Risk level to highlight only provinces at that risk level on the map and table. Click any province — on the map or in the ranked table — to see its own recent trend and forecast, and recommended actions.

What is PM2.5?

PM2.5 is fine particulate matter — smoke and dust particles smaller than 2.5 micrometres — small enough to be inhaled deep into the lungs and bloodstream. Landscape and savanna fires are a major source of it across Sub-Saharan Africa. It's measured here in micrograms per cubic metre (µg/m³); higher values mean more smoke in the air and higher health risk, particularly for pregnant people.
